Meet the animals at the Sanctuary
Every animal at our Sanctuary has a story.
They were rescued from difficult circumstances—injuries, illegal captivity, or situations that made it impossible for them to return to the wild. Today, they live in naturalized enclosures and are part of our Environmental Education Program. By getting to know them, you'll also learn about the threats they face and how we can all help protect wildlife.
Reptiles
Some of us who live here were rescued after being kept illegally as pets, while others were hit by cars while trying to cross the road. The yellow-eared and red-eared sliders were once sold in pet shops for aquariums. They cannot be released back into the wild because they are not native species and could pose a threat to local wildlife.
