Las Pumas Sanctuary, located in Cañas, Guanacaste since 2003, launched an Environmental Education Program aimed at supporting the conservation of Costa Rica’s wildlife. This program seeks to raise awareness among intergenerational Costa Rican and international audiences about the country's wildlife, the threats it faces, and the actions we can take to protect it, through participatory techniques.
During their visit to Las Pumas, guests have the opportunity to learn about 27 species of wildlife, including felines, primates, deer, peccaries, grisons, and birds such as parrots, macaws, and toucans. They will also get to know the rescue stories of the 170 resident wild animals to whom we provide a high quality of life. It is an open-air classroom where visitors can enjoy a unique experience—seeing the animals up close, hearing them, smelling the forest, and learning about them to support their conservation.
The program includes an introductory talk about our management sites and rescue work, followed by a guided tour of the Sanctuary, and ends with fun educational activities about wildlife and conservation actions—such as animal bingo, mask painting, storytelling, memory games, puppet shows, and more.
